THE TIGER OF TURKI
Nursi was born in eastern Turkey in
1877and died in 1960, at the age of 83 after a life of exemplary struggle and
self-sacrifice in the course of Islam.
He was a scholar of the highest standing
having studied not only all the traditional religious sciences but also modern
sciences. He earned the name Badiuzzaman, wrote the greater part of the one
hindered and thirty parts of the Risale-Nur.
The light of education brightened the
soul of Badiuzzaman to reach high of level of summit. He not only taught many
students and many engaged in debate with leading scholars from all over the
Islamic world.
The Risale-Nur shows that true happiness
is only to be found in belief and knowledge of Allah both in this world and the
hereafter.
Bediuzzaman was taken prisoner in March
1996 and held in Russia for two years. He was invited to Ankara by new leaders
and the Risale-Nur is what is known as a “Manavi tafseer”.
He considered the true enemies in the age
of sciences, reason. Thus just he combated and “utterly defeated” these with
the reasoned proofs of the Risale-Nur so through strengthening the belief of
Muslim and raising it to the level of “true, verified belief”.
He explains how the Quran addresses all
men in every age in accordance with the degree of their understanding and
development. He has a face that looks to each age.
He had no books for references and the
writing of religious works. Hand written copies were then made, these were
secretly copied and in 1946 were Risale-Nur students able to obtain duplicating
machines, while it has not till 1996 that various parts were printed on modern
press. The Riale-Nur was the most effective barrier against the corruption of
society caused by enemies.
Professor Annamasala said “I say, at the
end of the 20th century, the meaning of the following words should
be forgotten: war, religious in tolerance, racism hunger, ignorance. Yes, I am a student of Turki’s tolerance.
Thereafter I love a sentence, a command of said Nursi’s, he said: “our enemies
are ignorance, poverty and conflict. We shall wage holy war against these
enemies with the weapons of industry and unity”.
Bediuzzaman said Nurse made a long and
profound journey through the wide oceans of the Quran and his work, known as
the Risale-Nur, are derived from its light and from its truths.
